Moroco Beach Session – Fort Lauderdale, FL Photographer

One of my favorite places to be is by the sea. While, I’m not big on getting in -shark week, anyone??- there is something so calming about the crashing waves and ocean breeze. Being born on an island and living most of my life within 10 minutes of the water, it also has a definite feel of “home” for me. So whenever someone requests a beach shoot, my internal self does her happy dance!

I met the Moroco family over 15 years ago when they moved to South Florida, and our families have been great friends ever since. Their youngest son, Andrew, just accepted a great opportunity with a company in California, and mom wanted to get a nice session in before the big move. The temperature was in the 70’s and we got to see about 7 or 8 cruise ships depart on their journeys. Did I mention it was the last weekend in January? ♥

We’re currently collaborating on a canvas and print photo collage for their home, and I’m on pins and needles to see the final result!

Carol Moroco - Thaymmie did a FANTASTIC job with our family shots! I am thrilled with the various settings and how natural we look! She is an artist and we were the living art! It was lotsof fun and the pictures will be cherished forever!

Hilt Maternity Session – Weston, FL Photographer

Another couple you may recognize is the Hilts. Elissa isn’t only a great friend, she’s also A.C.P.’s official second shooter. Those of you that have booked 2013 weddings with me will get to meet her and her bubbly personality on your big day!

Elissa and Anthony couldn’t have picked a better time of year to have their baby because South Florida is GORGEOUS in the “winter” time. Speaking from personal experience, cool weather is very much appreciated when you’re hauling an extra person around!

We used blocks that also double as decorative pieces in the baby’s nursery, and Anthony got to dig his hands into some finger paints. We had an awesome day of shooting and talking about all the cute ideas for the baby’s newborn session. Good thing they were prepared too, because little Matthew decided to make his grand arrival a month before his due date. Those pictures are coming soon!

Matthew’s Newborn Session – Coconut Creek, FL Photographer » A. Cotto Photography - […] And then there were three. Well… six if you include their two pups and the kitty! It’s been a big year for the Hilt’s and I’ve loved being able to document their ride. You may recall their beautiful wedding (some peeks in the wedding section under “portfolio”) as well as their park maternity session. […]

Rebecca is 6 months! – Weston, FL Photographer

It was such an insanely busy holiday season -in a good way!- that I’ve fallen a bit behind on blogging. I hope you all forgive me and are ready for a little recap. 😉  I’d like to get the ball rolling with this adorable little miss you’ve seen grow and change on the blog.

Can you believe Rebecca is now 6 months old? No? Me neither! For those parents reading, you know this is a time of exciting milestones. At this age most children are giggling up a storm and Rebecca was no exception. It’s so fun to see my little clients growing and doing new things! Even nursing a slight cold, she was such a good sport the whole way through. Can’t wait to continue to capture the rest of her first year, and beyond. I’m also pretty giddy to announce that this tiny cutie will be acquiring a new title in 2013. BIG SISTER! She’s going to totally rock that role.

How to photograph your Christmas tree – South Florida Photographer

A few days ago I posted a picture of my Christmas tree on the A.C.P Facebook fan page, and got numerous messages on asking how I achieved the shot. A lot of you were surprised when I said there were no special backlights or tricks used. I was actually in my completely dark house, which was illuminated only by the Christmas lights on the tree and banister. Below are the details of my settings!

Shot with:

  • Nikon D600 (RAW)
  • 50mm
  • 1250 ISO
  • f/1.4
  • 1/30 Shutter Speed   (Click HERE if you’re wondering what that all means!)

I used a tripod to steady the camera since I’d be shooting at a lower speed. If I would have used a remote to trigger the camera, I would have then lowered the ISO a bit and slowed down the shutter speed even more. Use that technique if you’d like the lights to look for “star-ish.”

And here goes one of my favorite ornaments on the tree. I’d stick a chandelier anywhere if I could!

I hope you guys found this helpful. I’d love to see your own tree pictures! You can email me at thaymmie@acottophotography.com.

 Happy Holidays to you all!
